OK, OK – We’re Suckers for a Sweet Holiday Ad

The Moon

Competition among British retailers for the title of “Best Holiday Ad” is intense with each vying to sponsor the year’s most talked-about spot. The competition is all in good sport, with efforts ranging from some sublimely observed family caricatures to outright saccharine sentiment. Here, from the London agency Adam & Eve, is a new one from department store John Lewis — a sweet evocation of the spirit of the holiday season. The song, in case you didn’t know, is Oasis’ “Half the World Away” written by that band’s Noel Gallagher but covered here (quite memorably) by the singer Aurora.
