Wash Your Hands! 10 Great Songs to Scrub To

With COVID-19 sweeping the country, public health officials have been consistently encouraging people to do one simple thing: wash your hands. The recommended duration of a good scrubbing should come out to roughly 20 seconds, or about the amount of time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song — twice over. This gets boring – fast. To make things more interesting, here are ten other catchy choruses to sing instead.

Ramble On – Led Zeppelin

Ramble on/And now’s the time, the time is now

To sing my song/I’m goin’ ’round the world, I got to find my girl

On my way/I’ve been this way ten years to the day

Ramble on/Gotta find the queen of all my dreams

Landslide – Fleetwood Mac

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing’/‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

But time makes you bolder/Even children get older

And I’m getting’ older, too

Brightside – The Killers

Jealousy, turning saints into the sea

Swimming through sick lullabies

Choking on your alibis

But it’s just the price I pay

Destiny is calling me

Open up my eager eyes

 ‘Cause I’m Mr. Brightside

I Won’t Back Down – Tom Petty

Hey, baby

There ain’t no easy way out

Hey, I will stand my ground

And I won’t back down

Jolene – Dolly Parton

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene

I’m begging of you please don’t take my man

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene

Please don’t take him just because you can

If It Makes You Happy – Sheryl Crow

If it makes you happy/It can’t be that bad

If it makes you happy/Then why the hell are you so sad?

A Hard Day’s Night – The Beatles

It’s been a hard day’s night, and I’ve been working like a dog

It’s been a hard day’s night, I should be sleeping like a log

But when I get home to you I’ll find the things that you do

Will make me feel alright

Karma Chameleon – Culture Club

Karma, karma, karma, karma, karma chameleon

You come and go, you come and go

Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dreams

Red, gold, and green, red, gold, and green

Changes – David Bowie

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes/Turn and face the strange

Ch-ch-changes/Don’t want to be a richer man

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes/Turn and face the strange

Ch-ch-changes/Just gonna have to be a different man

Time may change me/But I can’t trace time

God Only Knows – The Beach Boys

I may not always love you

But long as there are stars above you

You never need to doubt it

I’ll make you so sure about it

God only knows what I’d be without you

I was thinking changing The Beatles “I Want To Hold Your Hand” lyric up slightly to ” oh yeah I tell you something I think you’ll understand when I say that something – I want to wash my hands – I want to wash my hands!”

The chorus to “Smells Like Team Spirit” always comes to mind (although I don’t know how long it is): “I feel stupid and contagious…”
