Droning On … In a Good Way

On the long list of things to admire about The Beatles is their ability to incorporate a wide range of influences into their songwriting.

Like 12th-century religious music, for example.

We’re not saying The Beatles spent time in monasteries chanting or anything like that, but they did grow up around liturgical music and probably absorbed the droning “pedal” tones common in ancient hymns. Fast forward a few hundred years, and pedals appear in another clear influence.

Our “Deconstructing the Beatles” pal, Scott Freiman, explains it all in one of our most-popular YouTube clips.
