Hello everyone,
First and foremost, we hope that you and yours are safe and well. As Mr. Lennon once wrote: “Strange days, indeed.”
As we all work to adapt to these difficult circumstances, we’ve been going through our archive to highlight some of our coolest posts, videos, and podcasts — with two purposes: to help you pass the time and to focus on subjects that can lift our spirits and remind us how great things can be.
With that in mind, please let me offer a few suggestions:
- We obviously have a lot (a lot!) of Beatle fans in our community, so you might enjoy a conversation between our two leading Beatle experts, Scott Freiman and Ken Womack, on 10 bands that are following in the Fabs’ footsteps. It’s a recording of a Facebook Live event from a while back, so it won’t win any cinematography awards (especially since I was the camera person), but the conversation is really enjoyable.
- Along those lines, Scott has done a lot of “mini deconstructions” of individual Beatle tracks and tricks, which you can see here.
- Going WAY out on a limb here, I’m guessing that some of us are consuming more than the usual amount of adult beverages while we ride out the storm. With that in mind, please let me recommend “Wine and Vinyl,” where YouTube sensation Josh Turner (with a little help from his friends) examines which wine you should pair with some of the world’s best albums. Here’s my personal fave.
- For some Grade-A musical geekery, and deep dives into great music, please check out the “Breaking It Down” podcast with our two pals, John Montagna and Jeff Ganz. Jeff and John are longtime pro musicians who’ve seen it all, and from the inside. My personal favorite episode focuses on the Motown legend James Jamerson; but you’ll no doubt find something to love in this mix.
- Lastly, please check out our selection of free stuff in our shop. There’s a Beatles eBook, plus two sweet documentaries. In each case, we hope they help lift your spirits.
Though it all, we very much appreciate the time you spend with us. Please drop a line and let us know how you’re doing, and how we can — in our small way — help “make it better.”
Gratefully,
Al
Ken Womack looks and sounds like a young Roger Ebert. Nice discussion. Did I miss it? What no Badfinger?
