Cookie Monster has always been my favorite Muppet – except for the days when Oscar the Grouch better suits the mood. Apple, in an inspired new television spot, puts Cookie in the kitchen – and in the spotlight – as he whips up a batch of favorites. He summons Siri to set a timer for fourteen minutes – an endless, tortured era for a Muppet with Cookie’s craving. The spot is a series of gently comic vignettes as Cookie endures his wait and a great illustration of the iPhone‘s new feature, hands-free access to Siri, a great example of simplicity and directness in advertising.
